Understanding learning theories in teacher education courses (D.El.Ed): A textbook analysis from Maharashtra
Shaikh Imran
Abstract:
This research underscores critical issues in teacher education in Maharashtra, particularly regarding the content and quality of educational psychology textbooks used in pre-service courses. These texts often fail to align with the directives of policy documents such as the National Curriculum Framework for Teacher Education (NCFTE, 2009) and the MSCERT- prescribed syllabus. Private publishers produce guidebooks with inaccuracies and misinterpretations of learning theories, which undermines the foundational understanding of prospective teachers. This academic deficit contributes to ineffective teaching practices and adversely affects the cognitive and moral development of students, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds.
